About this zine
For over a decade, Sebastian Haslauer has moved fluidly across styles and media, seeking to unite the naïveté of the amateur with the expertise of the professional in pursuit of an evocative, timeless quality. As the underlying modus operandi of his practice, collage is the technique that feels most natural to him—and perhaps the medium in which Haslauer’s playfulness finds its purest expression.
Sebastian: “Early last year, I began a major series of collages, now titled Raw Feels, which I am delighted to present this May. After months of painting with a very small brush in a very large studio, the Zeitgeist no longer felt distant from the work—it was suddenly breathing down my neck.
A necessary studio move led me back to collage, a technique I hadn’t revisited in years. In response to an increasingly digital engagement with current events, I felt the need to work physically with material again—uncovering “images within images” for the anger, fury, and helplessness of the present moment. Collage has always been a medium of subversion, and I wanted to see whether it could still ask urgent questions in 2026.”
Sebastian Haslauer lives and works in Berlin and has released the “ACID” cap with JB. Institute in 2019, and also exhibited at StudioTrouble™ in the years after. JB. Institute is happy to collaborate again on the “Raw Feels” project.
